Eyewitnesses have confirmed the music icon's slump at the party
Nigeria's Legendary singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away. She died aged 72. She was said to have collapsed on Tuesday after performing at a social gathering. The occasion of her last performance was the birthday celebration of Mrs. Stella Okoli, a friend of hers.
The singer was said to have died on Tuesday night at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos after slumping at the birthday party of Mrs Stella Okoli.
Eyewitnesses have confirmed the music icon's slump at the party.
One eyewitness said, “It is very sad. Onyeka Onwenu just performed at the birthday of Mrs. Stella Okoli today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024), and after performing, she slumped.”
President Bola Tinubu and other high-profile Nigerians have been pouring eulogies on the passing of the iconic singer.
"President Tinubu celebrates the life of the versatile and extremely gifted artiste who applied herself to the whole gamut of artistic enterprise and expression, bringing joy and laughter to many.
"The President condoles with the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and the numerous fans of the departed star over this immeasurable loss," states the president's spokesperson.
