Federal Government don postpone di launch of Nigerian Students Loan Scheme. Akintunde Sawyer, wey be Executive Secretary of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), tok dis for interview with Arise News.

Dem bin plan say di loan go start on Thursday, March 14, 2024, but dem don postpone am again. Sawyer tok say dem dey do some corrections before dem go launch am.

E tok say, "I no fit give specific date. We dey wait make all di people wey dey involved agree, so dat we fit roll am out wey go make sense, comprehensive, wholesome and sustainable."

Presido Bola Tinubu don sign di bill into law for June 2023, to establish Students Loan Fund (SLF) wey go give interest-free loans to Nigerians wey wan do higher education.

Di bill, wey Femi Gbajabiamila, wey be di former Speaker of House of Representatives, sponsor, bin plan to start between September and October 2023.

Presido Tinubu come tok say di scheme go start by January 2024, after im Government no meet di October deadline last year.

For January, Yusuf Sununu, wey be Minister of State for Education, confirm for di Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting say dem don finish preparation for di scheme to start. Dem don finalise di Student Loan Scheme website and other technical plans to make sure say di scheme start.

President Tinubu come assure leaders of di National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) when dem visit am for State House, Abuja, say di scheme go start once dem don expand am to include extra features like vocational studies.
