Di incident happen for Sunday evening for one gas shop, e cause serious damage to buildings wey dey near am.
Di latest explosion na one of di series of gas and Improvised Explosive Device (IED) incidents wey don happen for di state since 2024.
SP Grace Iringe-Koko, wey be di command’s spokesperson, confirm di incident during interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.
She talk say, “Yes, I fit confirm say di explosion happen because one welder wey dey repair refrigerator.”
‘’Di technician dey use gas cylinder to weld, as he still dey try refill gas for di refrigerator, na im cause di explosion.
‘18 pipo, including di technician, suffer injury but thank God, nobody die,” she add.
Iringe-Koko talk say, di people wey injure get burns of different degrees and dem quickly carry dem go hospital wey dem dey receive treatment.
She also confirm say di police don start full investigation into di incident, and dem go share di results with di public.
One eyewitness, wey dem call Tamuno, describe di incident as wahala, talk say di victims include one pregnant woman, four children, and one couple.
"Di explosion make other gas cylinders inside di shop also explode.
"Most of di victims na people wey live around there and passers-by, wey no sabi say wahala go happen around di shop," him talk.
He also talk say many of di victims na rush go Rivers State Teaching Hospital for Port Harcourt and him hope say dem go survive. (NAN)
