History na academic subject wey don come back inside the curriculum of primary and junior secondary schools inside Lagos State.

The state’s Ministry of Education tok dis one on saturday say students go offer the subject as elective for senior secondary schools.

The statement read say, the Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, (OEQA) at the state’s Ministry of Education, Abiola Seriki, announce say teaching history as a stand-alone subject go come back inside schools for the state.

The return of the subject na because of the directive wey come from the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council (NERDC).

Dem send memo go give owners and heads of private schools inside Lagos State, to inform dem say dem add History to the school curriculum.

Dem go teach the subject for primaries 1 and 2 and JSS 1 and 2 classes in the 2022/2023 academic session.

EXPUNGED FROM CURRICULUM IN 2009

History na subject inside Nigerian primary and secondary schools until dem comot am from the curriculum in 2009.

Na dat time the Nigerian government launch the New Basic Education Curriculum for primary and junior secondary schools.

Critism follow the decision and in 2017, the Nigeria Education Research and Development Council (NERDC) announce say dem go reintroduce the subject from the 2018/2019 academic session.

The National Council on Education (NCE) approve a new curriculum for teaching the subject for eim 63rd meeting for June 2017, and the federal government fix the curriculum in 2018.
