Di Federal Government don announce say dem go close Ijora Bridge for Lagos from April 27, to do serious repair work.
Di Federal Controller of Works for Lagos, Madam Olukorede Kesha, tok say di bridge wey connect Ijora Causeway go Apapa need serious repair, especially to change di bad bearings wey dey under di bridge deck.
Kesha tok say:
"Dem don award dis bridge for repair since, and dem dey do am small small in phases.
"Now we don reach di final stage wey go involve lifting di whole bridge deck to change all di bad bearings wey dey under.
"Plenty of di bearings don spoil, and na like 50 of dem we go replace for three different parts of di bridge."
She tok say di Ijora Bridge na very important road wey lead go Apapa, and Apapa na where two of Nigeria biggest ports dey—Tincan and Apapa ports.
She agree say di closure go cause wahala for road, but e dey important to do am so say make commuters dey safe and make di bridge no spoil pass as e don already spoil.
She tok say to reduce di traffic wahala wey go show, motorists wey dey come from Ijora side go pass Seven Up Roundabout to reconnect back to Apapa.
Heavy-duty motors go pass another road—through Costain enter Iganmu before dem fit reach Apapa.
Kesha assure everybody say di Federal Ministry of Works don plan di diversion roads well well, and dem no expect big problem.
She beg road users make dem show understanding and cooperate.
She still tok say di repair work go dey time-sensitive.
According to her, di ministry don receive plenty complain from people wey dey notice say di bridge dey shake well well.
Kesha talk say di bridge no go collapse, but e need urgent help.
She talk say:
"E no go fall, but e really need help. If you drive on top di bridge now, you go feel di vibration.
"Na because di bearings—dem spring-like support wey dey under di deck—don weak well well."
She come tok say dis one na di first serious repair wey dem go do for Ijora Bridge since dem build am decades ago.
She tok say di first part of di work—wey involve lifting di bridge and changing di bearings—go require make dem close di bridge completely.
But other works like removing and putting new asphalt fit happen in stages, maybe on Sundays, so traffic no go too block.
Kesha tok say e dey important make people sabi wetin dey happen, and she mention say Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, don order say anytime wey dem wan close bridge, dem must announce am well.
She tok:
"We want make people know say na for dem own good.
"If people cooperate with us, we go fit finish di work quick and make di bridge safe again."
